MEDIATION and SOCIAL PROJECT programme

AI DŌ PROJECT develops its MEDIATION, AUDIENCE CREATION and SOCIAL PROJECT programme in parallel to artistic creation. The company's activities aim to bring these artistic processes closer to different audiences, developing a series of meetings and workshops throughout the creative process. Once the creation is completed, an official premiere is held, to which the programme participants are invited, their relatives, and the general public.

The performance of activities exclusively for programme participants, combined with the open premiere, generates different dynamics and forms of relationship, enriching not only for programme participants but also for family members.

Invisible Beauty is a project developed by AI DŌ PROJECT for people with dementia, created in 2013 for the Association of Relatives and Friends of People with Alzheimer's and other Dementias of Gipuzkoa (AFAGI). The project is nowadays accomplished in collaboration with Dantzagunea and Musikene

Dantzagunea is the service of the Gipuzkoa Regional Government providing facilities for both education and dance creations within the province of Gipuzkoa (Basque Country, Spain).

Musikene is the Music Conservatory of the Basque Country.

Gallery 1: Working together with the attendees.

Gallery 2: Performance of dance pieces.

Invisible Beauty is a series of creative seminars utilising contemporary dance to stimulate cognitive responses and memory recognition in people with dementia. The workshops were initially designed to be carried out at the Associations of Families of People with Alzheimer 's and other dementias (AFA). Still, due to the development and new collaborators, the seminars are nowadays celebrated at Musikene Auditorium and Dantzagunea

Through the new collaboration with MUSIKENE, two essential elements to the original structure were added: a short dance performance adequate to the attendees and a pedagogical programme for young musicians and dancers. Through the pedagogical programme, we are now offering musicians from Musikene Conservatoire and dancers (stagers) the opportunity to take part in the project, proposing to them not only an approach to the style and way AI DŌ PROJECT dance company works but also showing them a different path they could follow in the future as professional musicians and dancers.

The specific goals of the project include:

• The delay of the degenerative process of the disease.
• The integration of people with dementia into cultural life.

• To offer the specialists of AFAGI new tools and exercises that are included in their daily schedule within the association.
• The development of a Pedagogical Project for music and dance students.

Each seminar is conceived according to a specific topic. Through it, people with dementia are presented with a series of elements that stimulate their physical and emotional memory.

Artists that are already collaborating on the project and with the dance company include singer EMMA BONNICI (London), actors LORETO MAULEON (Donostia) and CARLOS SERRANO (Alicante), choreographer MICHAEL CARTER (Sydney, Australia), pianist MARITERE BALERDI (Donostia) and dancers DÁCIL GONZÁLEZ, JAIOTZ OSA, MIGUEL BALLABRIGA to name a few.

In addition to the participation of students from Musikene, other artists of different disciplines will be invited to participate in the seminars.

The first seminar was carried out in July 2013 in San Sebastian.

INVISIBLE BEAUTY DOCUMENTARY (2018)

Intending to present the project and as a tool for normalisation and awareness-raising, in 2018, the company made a short documentary about the work carried out so far. It features testimonies from relatives of people with Alzheimer's and those affected by the disease themselves. The documentary has been shown in various countries and programmes by foundations and associations linked to Alzheimer's disease.

Despite the difficulties in publishing material of this nature, activities to normalise the disease are an essential part of the project. The translation of this documentary into several languages reflects the urgency of generating a more significant impact on society. This impact will translate into improving the quality of life of those affected.
